As you’ve probably read by now, I had the opportunity to interview Gov. Daniels again yesterday. That makes, oh probably, five or six times now, maybe more, that I’ve interviewed him. I’m still amazed at how short the guy is. It’s very rare that a man is shorter than me. But then again, I’m usually wearing heels when I interview Daniels. Without them, we might be level…

I need your help Breakroom Buds. Some comic named Nate Smith is running a contest for best Nate Smith ever. I e-mailed him and I asked for an honorable mention.

Check out his blog: http://nateisablog.blogspot.com/ and tell him to give me an honorable mention!

To most of us, it is. But to a few who live in Bloomington, it isn’t. We met them when they rode the proposed I-69 route, and they wanted local economies to work instead of the one we presently use. The problem is it may work in Bloomington, but not in Daviess County.

I-69 will happen, no matter the environmental lawsuit filed in Brown County. We need it to work for us and I think it will. The funny thing is, this will help Bloomington more than it will help Daviess County. Are they protesting the interstate there? Not really.

The council this morning appropriated $200,000 from riverboat gambling money to fix the worst of Daviess County’s gravel roads. (They can’t use property tax money for roads without declaring an emergency.) Now that’s only enough for 19 miles, but at least it’s something.

I’ve heard people say that all Daviess County roads should be paved. Problem is, if they were, we couldn’t afford to maintain them. We can barely afford to maintain the paved roads we’ve got now since the Highway Department gets less and less money from the state each year while prices continue to rise. At least they can try to keep the gravel roads in decent condition. Other than that, I don’t know what the answer is. Where do we get the money?

You ever see when you buy a home the projects just seem to pile and pile up on each other, one on top of the other?

That’s what I’m facing at the new casa de Nate on Washington Ave. We have the bathroom project, the painting project and the heating/ac project. It seemed like everyone had their own special project to do: Haag’s is taking care of the heating/ac for us (Thanks Greg and the guys), Allison and her dad Bill were doing the paint and my Dad and I are on the bathroom.

The only problem is trying to get around everyone’s work schedule, baby schedule and other stuff schedule. I have not played a single round of golf this YEAR, trying to get the house ready. Every moment I spend not at work is there and we still have more stuff to do. The move-in date is June 1 and it will be close to July before we get in.

Also, when you have a cute baby and there’s stuff to do, everyone is not at the house but will offer to take care of the baby. I swear, a bunch of people want the baby and not the paintbrush. Thank God for Bill and my Dad who are helping out.

I had a break last weekend because of Mother’s Day but I think with all the stuff going on, I need another one. I don’t know how the guys on This Old House do it.

This weekend, my husband and I helped his family get the new pool liner put in. The old one was damaged this winter after all the water leaked out, making the cover inneffective. I didn’t help put in the first one two summer ago, and I had no idea how difficult it is to get all the wrinkles out. It took four of us a couple hours to get it smoothed out. On Sunday, I woke up with a sunburn and very sore legs and arms. But we’re all looking forward to some more vicious battles of water volleyball this summer. If summer will only get here.

To all the newer people, judging by the stats, who are visiting our site I say welcome!

Sally does two shows before dinner. I do my stuff for the late nite crowds. Remember to tip your waitress.

It’s nice to see Scoops set up shop at Eastside Park. They will be there from noon to 5 p.m. this weekend. Also, there is no one set up to run the train out at the park. Coming from a railroading family, my in-laws too, I wish a retired railroader would take it.

I thought about asking my grandfather but the kids would get tired of him talking about golf all the time. JK.

I’ve had the past two days off to think about Thursday and I can now say that the foot is healed and I am calm once again. There is peace in Nateland and peace can now come to everyone I see. Yes folks, that’s everyone.

I did see by our blog stats that more people have viewed the blog since Thursday and Friday. Todd’s got Cyber Press Pass Nation, so I came up with something for our blog fans: Breakroom Buddies. Anyone have a better moniker? Let me know.

As I have talked with people this weekend about the school board “meeting,” they seem to be on the open door side. One person told me years ago before going into a meeting, he was corralled and told to be quiet before complaining. Wow, a lot has changed since then.

My family liked the editorial. My grandfather told me to “keep at ‘em.”

We will see what happens now with the “meeting” and when the real meeting happens later this week or next. I’ll cross that bridge when I get there, but with backup.

Happy Mother’s Day to all our breakroom buddies. Let’s have a good week, shall we?

When I found out at 3 p.m. when I came in that the Washington School Board was having a meeting, my jaw dropped and then I got mad. I knew they had just broken the law by not informing us. I had to go to another room and cool off. That didn’t work. I got a hug. That didn’t work. I went outside, smoked and then kicked a cinder block. That didn’t work and I hurt my foot.

I wanted to go to that meeting real bad, but Pat and Mel thought better to send me to North Daviess. That is good, because if I went to Washington, I would have not been at North Daviess later, I would have been in jail. I know I am not supposed to get like that, being a fair-minded journalist but I am human.

After Sally came back and told me what happened. What Gary Williams said and how he said it to her, I had to drive by the central office. It took every ounce of strength in me not to get out of the car and confront Williams myself.

Here’s what I want to know. Would Willams had done that if I, a man, would have been there? I don’t think so.Sally has been in difficult situations before, but she should get an apology.

You know what? I’m still mad.
